Festie-Fire Musings:
I literally just got back from a weekend event where I literally hung out with a lot of 20-somethings. Much fun was had listening to and watching around the campfire! Some observations about our up-and-coming generation (or at least the ones representing them at this festival):
I literally just got back from a weekend event where I literally hung out with a lot of 20-somethings. Much fun was had listening to and watching around the campfire! Some observations about our up-and-coming generation (or at least the ones representing them at this festival):
1) the word “literally” (or its malaprop cousin) has made a comeback. it is literally the most over-used (and mis-used) word in a millenial’s vernacular.
2) nothing is taboo. they will literally talk about anything and everything (sexual, political, etc). Partly refreshing, partly disturbing. i could hear grandma saying “is nothing sacred anymore?!”
3) Unfortunately inappropriate racist, sexist and anti-semitic jokes/comments are not taboo, either. and are delivered loudly and without chagrin. and are still offensive.
4) Things heard around the campfire ranged from someone espousing the virtues of the burka to “protect” women to a woman bearing her breasts and saying “look at these, want to hang out?”
5) Ryan is a very popular name.
6) it is a commonly accepted practice to replace one’s name with those of superheroes or animals
7) People still smoke cigarettes, seemingly more so than the previous generation
8) Beer is still very popular and free beer will motivate even the most inebriated to run to the other side of the festival.
Not sure what to make of all that, but it was fun people-watching!
